Customer choice in home care services - LOV

As of December 1, 2012, the municipality of Härnösand applies customer choice in home care under the Act on Freedom of Choice Systems, LOV.

For those who have been granted home care services, this means that you can choose who will provide the services - the municipality's home care services or a private home care provider.

You pay the same fee regardless of whether you choose the municipality's home care service or a private home care provider.

The providers you can choose from are approved by the municipality. To be approved, home care providers must meet the requirements set by the municipality.

You choose the home care provider that you think meets your requirements and wishes. Choosing is an option but not a requirement. If you don't want to choose, you don't have to. You will always receive the help you are entitled to.

You can change providers if you want, when you want and how many times you want. You do not have to tell the municipality or the home care service provider you no longer want why you want to change provider.

We offer:

  • a contact person to whom you can always turn if you have questions or concerns
  • the opportunity to participate in regular quality reviews
  • daily follow-up of home care visits.
  • you will be contacted by us if we are more than 30 minutes late for your visit.

Description of the service

The municipality's home care service has been established since the mid-1960s. Approximately 220 permanent employees work in the home care service, as well as a number of temporary staff. We work and provide service and care seven days a week, around the clock.

Staff skills

70% of our staff have some form of nursing training. All permanent staff have photo ID cards. They also have name badges with our logo.

Temporary staff all have a name tag showing that they are employed by the municipality's home care service.

It is also important to us that you feel safe in your meeting with us, that you are treated well, that the help you receive is consistent with what you have been granted and that the help is provided as you want it. We strive for continuity in terms of the time of visits and what is to be done at your home.

Language skills

All our staff must have a good command of spoken and written Swedish. Other languages used in our operations are currently Arabic, English, Finnish, Polish, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish and German.

If you do not speak Swedish, we work to ensure that you are assisted on a number of occasions by a person who speaks your language and knows your culture.

We work in small groups around each customer to maintain good continuity. You as a customer are always in focus and we take your wishes into account. Our coordinators each have their own area of responsibility, which makes it easy for you as a customer to know who to turn to and who has good knowledge of you and your needs.
